Are you interested in history? Embark on a time trip! Discover the Roman ruins, walk through the old town centre with the still preserved geometrical (perpendicular decumanus – cardo) street arrangement, find the carefully preserved fragments of ancient temples. The list must include the 13th century Romanesque House, the Baroque interior of the Istrian Assembly, the House of Two Saints, the Gothic house and the Zuccato Palace. The most precious cultural monument, also recognized by the UNESCO in its World Heritage list, is the Basilica of Euphrasius built in the mid- sixth century. All this worthy historical heritage is still protected by the town’s medieval battlements with three towers.
Do you feel like somewhat different time travel? Come to Poreč during the Giostra – the Historical Poreč Festival. You will be fascinated by the rich silk crinolines of the noblewomen, the knights in armour, the falconers, jugglers, standard- bearers, street entertainers and horsemen. Watch the knightly tournament and dance to 18th century steps and cadences.
In addition to history and the cultural heritage, the town offers a wealth of activities in the summer months, and the lovers of good entertainment, active vacations and extreme sports, as well as those preferring peace, sunbathing and enjoying other pleasures by the sea, will find something to their satisfaction!
